Lockdown Day 578 - 25 October 2021
Today I am struggling with a bad case of vertigo due to an infection. This is when the crystals in your ear detach and your vestibular system has trouble discerning the earth's gravitational pull - the thing that keeps us upright and stable. Dizziness and the world turning are two of the common symptoms.
My work has predominantly to do with the vestibular and all its higher thought functions such as learning and execution of daily tasks. The primary function is to maintain equilibrium of the body. In other words to stay upright. Never did I think I would experience loss of gravitational control to this degree.
I decided I would use this opportunity to try and find more motor solutions for this problem and less medication. Although there are tablets for the re-attachment of the crystals, most sources confirm exercise as the first and foremost treatment for vertigo. Old school treatments include stomping of feet or jumping with two feet in one spot.
It made me realise how much we take being a normal person for granted. Just getting up in the morning and lying down to sleep is a blessing if you can do it without the room spinning around.
Tending to your garden, being able to bend down to plant something or pull out weeds without tumbling over or the garden spinning, is also a blessing.
Looking around by turning your head is another blessing. And most of all, the higher thought function of storing and retracting information without brain fog, is another blessing.
So tonight I repent for never seeing these things as God-given blessings, and praise God for them. I also offer up a prayer for everyone who struggle with the simplest of everyday things, hoping for a better day tomorrow. God's got us all firmly in His hand.

"Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me."
Psalm 139:7-10
