Lockdown 119

Lockdown Day 119 - 23 July 2020
Today I heard the most passionate and inspiring message by our country's Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. He spoke of hopelessness and spiritual warfare, also confirming to my spirit the feeling I had yesterday about this 'war' that should be fought spiritually as well.

Driving to a nearby town today to do a delivery, I was once again taken in by the harshness of the Free State's winter. All around me was yellow grass as far as they eye could see. Everything is dried out by the persistent cold weather which up to now has thrown everything at us. We had rain, sleet, snow and frost upon frost. Even the green of the non-deciduous trees looks a little on the grey side.

These scenes reminds me of Namibia and the incredible beauty of nothing upon nothing. Only vast expanses of stone, rock, or sand. And then, to zoom in and find the astonishing wildlife in this seemingly lifeless arid place still boggles my mind. I remember the first time I drove into Windhoek, I was shocked to see no green grass covered sidewalks on any property we passed, just ground and gravel. But somehow, we got used to the semi-arid living.

The day we took our first trip to see Sossusvlei via the Spreetshoogte Pass, is forever etched into my mind. The pass in itself was beautiful, covered in a stunning array of rocks and stone. Here and there the scene was dotted with Cussonia (Kiepersol) trees with their greyish green cabbage-like leaves. The moment we reached the summit of the pass, a view spread out in front of us that caught our breath.

We pulled over and got out to take in the nothingness of what was in front of us. Apart from the very steep, paved road winding down, all we could see was a flat open rocky desert, all the way to the horizon. I immediately heard my friend Anelia say to me years before, Namibia is huil-mooi. This is Afrikaans for bringing one to tears. How true this was in that moment. Little did I know what amazing times lay ahead with our countless stays at Gondwana Collection's Namib Desert Lodge in the 6 years we spent in Namibia.

And tonight, I realise as bleak as our future may look from afar, we can zoom into God's view to see the life we would fail to see without Him. The road may be steep, but He has paved it for us. The ground is dry stone, but the life in this Rock is more powerful than the desert Lions. We see a vast plain of nothing, but He sees abundance of life.
Stick to Him and you will be surprised by the amazing times He is planning for His people. Be excited, for ahead lies the blessings from heaven.
In Justice Mogoeng's words, "May you see miracles from God, may you see the power of God flowing, may you see the mighty hand of God moving in your life."
