Lockdown 258

Lockdown Day 258 - 9 December 2020
Bday&Wedding #4

With just over 600km to go to Windhoek, we left Grünau just after 06h30. Brunch in Mariental was quick and we were back on the road in a hurry to see our son before he leaves for Swakopmund to join the bridal party.

On the way we passed many vehicles sporting bicycles. The famous Desert Dash is also taking place this weekend. Cyclists take part solo or in teams (various age categories) in this gruelling race through the Khomas Hochland, crossing 373km through the world's oldest desert in approximately 24 hours.
They start on Friday at 15h00 from Windhoek and dash through the night, with the first people expected in Swakopmund around 8am. I am very glad I will be in the desert for a wedding and not in a cycle saddle all night! Michelle C, this one's for you! 🚴

In Windhoek  went to see our son's newly renovated house which is beautiful inside with much to do still on the property's outside.  He is a beautiful young man making a life for himself and it is such a surreal feeling to see your son as an independent adult. I realised I am in that age bracket where I will visit my kids in their own home.
Seeing him was wonderful and my heart will be full once I see them both together.

Our day ended with our long trusted friends Leon, Sonja and their son Rudolph. Oh, what good and special people they are. They live on the estate where we lived for 6 years. The stars were spectacular as we settled down for the night.
I offer up a prayer tonight for rain in this area where no grass is left on the ground for the wildlife to graze on. Thank you God for blessing this country and its people and for protecting us all.
