Lockdown Day 255 - 6 December 2020
Birthday week and wedding week.
This morning we went to a 24hour covid testing facility, the first step in our trip to Nam and our son's wedding. The nose swab wasn't nearly as bad as we've heard, in fact quite the opposite and the sister was very careful and worked fast. We were told it could take between 24 and 48 hours for the results and fortunately we got it tonight, all negative, putting the official stamp on our Nam trip to the wedding.
For the first time we came close to the world of this abominable virus and the lives it has impacted. Real peiple with real names and real lives. People like us. Those that work on the front line as well as the patients.
When I thanked the sister who took my swab, I took a moment to make eye contact and let her know she is appreciated. Moments later, while waiting to settle the bill, I saw them help an old man whose doctor had to be contacted.
They work 12 hour shifts and still manage to smile and be warm and friendly. I wondered if I would be able to do that. Being friendly all day with rude and insulting clients must be a calling.
My Bestie and her newfound love came over for coffee and raisin bread at the end of the day, enjoying the cool breeze outside and chatting about the week lying ahead of us, looking forward to seeing them at the wedding.
Lying in bed, listening to the night sounds, I offer up a prayer for all the angels working on the front line of this (C&C, you too!) pandemic. Thank you for being who you are and responding to a calling most of us really understand little of. Gbwy.
