Lockdown 224

Lockdown Day 224 - 5 November 2020
On this day, while the Americans are counting ballots, I remember it was Guy Fawkes day when I was in school. But it was banned in later years.

Guy Fawkes was arrested on 5 November 1605 for wanting to blow up the House of Lords hoping to assassinate King James I in the process. He was to be hung for this planned act of treason, but decided to jump of the scaffolding with the noose around his neck.

Guy Fawkes day was to be in commemoration of the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605, marked by many fireworks. I've never really understood why.

All I remember was our pets went into an absolute frenzy of fear and anxiety when the fireworks errupted in our neighbourhood every year. One year my dog somehow got into the car and demolished all the seats.

Our pooch is extremely sensitive to all loud sounds, and we also try putting her blanket over her ears during thunderstorms. I frimly believe pets can alleviate stress in humans and vice versa.

According to many trainers, pets need to be fed, exercised and touched. In equal portions. Feeding without exercise and touch or touch without exercise and proper food can both lead to a variety of mental and psychological conditions manifested in behavioural issues.

Humans don't need to be fed by dogs, but treating their pets right grows a strong bond and relationship. It's in this relationship that both pet and human receive "therapy" they don't even realise they're getting.
On the back of that, anxiety breeds anxiety, and seeing as we're the upright ones, we should know to make sure our furry friends don't find anxiety (in us) to mirror.

The effect our pet has on us is directly related on the effect we have on them. Even Proverbs 12:10  talks about this relationship, "A good man takes care of the needs of his pets, while even the kindest acts of a wicked man are still cruel."

So tonight I offer up a thought and a prayer for our furry friends and those being treated unfairly and I ask God to protect and shelter them. (PS there are many ways to light up your home with lights✨)
