Lockdown 221

Lockdown Day 221 - 2 November 2020
Tonight as the full moon comes over the horizon, I ponder the term "blue moon". Apparently a blue moon has nothing to do with its colour, and is called this when it is the second full moon in a single calendar month. This moon was full on Saturday 31 October.

There is also another instance when a moon is called blue. It is the third of four full moons in a single season (a season is between a solstice and equinox), expected to happen on 22 August 2021.

Want to feel xtra close to God? Spend some time out, looking for the planets before the whole country gets doused in the wonderful rain the weather buro has predicted from Thursday. So I share with you tonight and tomorrow night's sky:

Tonight's Sky in SA, 2 Nov – 3 Nov 2020 (7 planets visible):
Mercury: fairly close to the Sun. Visible around sunrise and sunset only.
Tue, 3 Nov ↑04:35

Venus: View before sunrise.
Tue, 3 Nov ↑03:40

Mars: After sunset and most of the night.
Tue, 3 Nov ↓04:11

Jupiter: View after sunset.
Mon, 2 Nov ↓23:38

Saturn: View after sunset.
Mon, 2 Nov ↓23:57

Uranus: Up almost all night. Bring binoculars.
Tue, 3 Nov ↓05:16

Neptune: View after sunset. Use binoculars.
Tue, 3 Nov ↓02:49

Looking at the planets emphasises our earth's (and all humankind's) deep and uncontested dependency and bond with God. And how we cannot afford not believing He's got this. Because he does.
