Lockdown 150

Lockdown Day 150 - 23 August 2020
Yesterday, a house burned down in our estate. This follows one of SA's darkest hours where three families were caught in a fire in the Kalahari. Of the original 7 children and 6 adults, only two mothers and a baby survived. So now these two women are left with extreme grief and willpower.

This combination brings extreme cortisol and adrenaline levels into the body, causing depletion of happy hormones.
This, while they have to deal with what's left of their loved ones' remains that are being identified with DNA tests.

Willpower is a somewhat under-developed resource in human wellbeing, but nevertheless more powerful than we realise.
Available research on the subject suggests willpower can basically change your brain 'pictures' of virtually everything you experience in life, whether it is work or play. It is what you use when you change your mind, have an idea, or an expectation of something.

If you believe that using your willpower will deplete it, the exact thing you believe will happen. If you believe that using your willpower will strengthen it, it will.

Also, they have found that clutching something you hold dear/enjoy while you work/study/grieve/stress, can improve your willpower to get through almost anything. For instance, a "stress ball" or a soft cloth can do the trick. I decide to try this in the next week.

I decide tonight to clutch the Word of God in my hand, because I know His power. I clutch the Word, because He is Truth. Even though I will put it down when I sleep, I will do as Psalm 119:55 says, "Throughout the night I think of You, dear God; I treasure Your every Word to me." Ggt.
