Lockdown 140

Lockdown Day 140 - 13 August 2020
While walking this morning in the cold morning air, I was intensely aware of my breathing, the nature all around me and the sun in my eyes. I passed one of the little dams where we always see hundreds of finches flying among the reeds, wildly and loudly chattering away. This morning, though, their patch of heaven was being uprooted.

For a time now, we have seen the estate's gardeners remove all the dead reeds from the dams, something they do every year as winter passes into spring, and today, the little dam was being drained of all its water. The reeds will most probably be removed soon.

This left all the water birds trudging around in the muddy silt left on the bottom of the dam. And soon the finches will be left with no reeds. It made me think about the saying, "like a duck without water", and then I wondered about us humans. Where is our "place"?

Like a duck is a water bird, what do we have that, if taken away, would leave us feeling disorientated and fairly inadequate, as if something big is missing, something that defines our very existence and purpose.
I was suddenly amused by the thought of someone telling me, "why don't you just go back to your own dam??" 😅

This morning I received a video that touched my heart. It is about a banker in a city who helped a duck and her ducklings to get to water. For reasons unknown, this mother duck decided to nest on a ledge of the bank's second floor. In the city of Seattle. The concrete jungle.

So when the time came for her ducklings to go to water, the banker saw his help was needed. These ducklings and their mother were out of their depth, and this story would have had a nasty ending, weren't it for this man.

I was touched by this because even though we make choices in life without knowing how it will turn out, there will always be Someone who will catch us, pick us up, and rescue us out of life-threatening danger.

That Someone is God, and if He doesn't do it Himself, He uses anyone who is available for the job, That is our secondary purpose, to help one another as prompted by the Holy Spirit. Our primary purpose is to know Him and make Him known through the life He gave us to live.

Maybe you are in the middle of a self-conflicting decision you need to make, or you need to let everything go and let God into your world.

It just may not be how you pictured it to go down. For all you know, He wants to use you in the middle of what you're going through to make Him known through what you are enduring.

As we surrender the reigns of control, He is free to do His work. His will. The God I worship is indeed a mystery, and thank goodness for that.

So tonight I release all my fears, disappointments and my will into His hands, so He can complete what He has started, even if I feel incomplete, faith-challenged and tired. So He can use me exclusively for Himself. I shall jump, just like those ducklings did. Because I know, He's got this.
