Lockdown Day 448- 17 June 2021
This morning I went to the local car wash at 7 am. The morning light had just started to make the road visible, as the sun only rises well after 7.
Outside the car wash was a notice board on which was written Restricted Water Car Wash, Alternative water in use.
I was once again struck by the drought in PE and the Langkloof. I decided to google this Eastern Cape crisis in view of the recent (stricter) water restriction update. This area hasn't seen full dams since 2015. That's 6 years of little to no rain.
The photographs are disturbing, especially the Kouga dam level of 4.5% of which only 1.5% is said to be fit for consumption (this dam has never been empty since it was built more than 50 years ago).
To me it feels as if this drought is ignored, by locals and government alike. Add to that the wild statements I've heard in the two weeks we've been here, and you wonder if God isn't witholding the rain because the people called it.
Some of the statements I've heard are really wild, like the one about this city that never should have been built. Well, there you go, especially since its new name is claimed to mean "nothing" to the locals. It's like wishing it never really existed. Surely this is a greater pandemic than an abominable virus.
According to the water experts, at least 50 mm is needed in one go in the Langkloof to fill Kouga. Basically, that's a flood.
So tonight, while I relish every drop of water I use for the littlest of things, I call it.
I call in open heavens in Jesus' Name. Floodgates of heaven. And for the people here to start believing God's Word and return to Him as the only source, to turn away from their own will and surrender it all into God's hands.
So please pray with me for rain. Because God is our Rainmaker, Waymaker, Promise Keeper, Light in the darkness. And He's got this.
