Lockdown Day 737-2 April 2022
Ironman weekend. And of course, true to "tradition", appalling swimming conditions. Rain isn't a problem and we cannot complain about that because it is sorely needed.
Today was Ironman Corporate, and saw teams and individual competitors starting out just after 07:30 on a once again shortened route due to conditions and up to 2.5m swells with white water earlier on.
The wind was alternating between Southeast and East, but fortunately moderate speed. I sat at Indulge, while hubby was helping their teams transitiin between legs. I was dressed warmly, along with other supporters also warming up with a cuppa in hand, waiting for the bike leg of the race to start. The rain came down intermittently, sending all of us sheltering under the umbrellas on the deck.
We all ended up clapping and shouting for everyone coming past, battling the cold and wet conditions. New friendships were forged and everyone had a great time despite the conditions.
Most importantly, we all forgot about the abominable virus for a while. In a way we all are 'ironmen' in our own worlds just because we survived a pandemic and its aftermath.
