Lockdown Day 407 - 7 May 2021
I would like to tell you a short story about Jean who found a small deep blue diamond, approximately half a carat in size. She knew according to the industry such a diamond is worth roughly between 1.4 - 2.8 million rands.
So she went to the local diamonds guy for the diamond to be certified and appraised. She can hardly contain herself while he meticulously takes his time. Eventually, he looks up into her eyes, and declares the diamond is flawed.
Before she could think of anything to say to describe her disappointment, the diamond man says, "But the flaws are so insignificant, they don't really influence the value", followed by, " in fact, they change the way light is reflected, causing more than one blue colour to emerge from the stone."
Finishing his examination, the diamond man stuns Jean with his final recommendation, "This diamond is therefore priceless. I would never be able to pay you for its true value, because every time I look at it, I see another facet I have never seen before. The best advice I can give you is to set it uncut in such a manner that the light can flow through it from all angles. No lifetime is long enough to see the full impact of this stone on those who appreciate its beauty."
