Lockdown Day 544 - 21 September 2021
On my errands today I saw a few children dancing to some music outside a supermarket where they were selling goods on special. One of them was trying to coax their mother to join them, who refused.
This made me think about something I read a while ago. The human brain ages over time as the body does, and although there are many ways to curb the process, there is one thing that has a profound impact on brain rejuvenation: dance!
From my line of work I know the value of movement and the effect it has on the ability of the brain to learn. It increases blood flow by a minimum of 15%, virtually bathing the neurons in oxygen-rich blood.
The elevated heart rate also induces better sleep cycles and patterns, helping the body's production of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin which impact everything from mood to concentration.
Dancing specifically trains sequencing in the brain, which plays an important role in cell repairs and the restoration of tissue. When dancing, the use of limbs on both sides of the body individually acts as a powerful catalyst for higher thought patterns.
Wow! How incredible is that! So, the next time you find your foot tapping to music, go one step further and get up! Forget about who's looking and think about your intricate design. Not only does dancing grow the brain, it also sparks joy. The joy that comes from our spirit, embedded into this design.
Try it! The only thing that can happen is to you is a happy brain! In a time such as this, that is a gooood thing.
