Lockdown Day 812-16 June 2022
Our first morning in Kieliekrankie. It is - 2°C at sunrise and we leave early for a long drive via Kij Kij to the main camp for brunch. Kij kij is a waterhole where the road connects to the Nossob road, which, if you drive north will take you to Nossob Camp. We turn south to Twee Rivieren.
On the way we talk about how every visitor we speak to complains about seeing so little animals compared to other years. We muse over the reasons for this, such as good rains and more than enough food across the dunes where no roads go.
Just before the main camp we see many cars parked in front of a high dune right by the roadside. We see two leopards sitting in the grass, barely visible and perfectly camouflaged.
What a reward and a sighting to remember. And again, as if the Kgalagadi was whispering in our ears, we took a single picture through the lens of the binoculars, because without the right equipment this picture was one for the memory bank to save.
I would like to share my indignance about the restaurant service in Twee Rivieren, but I decided against spoiling the Kgalagadi vibe. We left for Kieliekrankie on a high, and end a beautiful day with a beautiful night.
A jackal calls out in the night as we retire, and I lie in bed, watching the moon light up the sky once again. And I cannot stop thanking God for His awesome creativity and awesome vistas He spreads out before us, day and night. Yes, I know for sure He's got this.
