Lockdown Day 683- 7 February 2022

Week 97.

Wedding week. My Bestie is getting married this coming weekend and we are super excited!!

And so today our friends from Warden, also on their way to the wedding, came to spend the afternoon and night with us. We went to find Fort Frederick, the first building to be erected in Port Elizabeth in 1799.

We also took a drive to Cape Recife's Lighthouse just before sunset and headed home after going to see the canon at Schoenmakerskop.

We spent a late night on the stoep with PE weather boasting a cool windless summer night. As always, we share the goodness of the Lord with each other and we retire with our spirits built up and friendship ties firmly strengthed.

Lockdown 681

Lockdown Day 681- 5 February 2022

Following last night's video, I thought to share some specifics of our ocean health on planet earth. 

First, a word about pollution. It is real and although the ocean is trying its best with "garbage patches of plastic" to try and keep itself clean, one cannot ignore what it is doing to the ocean inhabitants.

However, on most sites where daily updates around the world are shared about our planet and ocean health status, the single two most mentioned threats on the survival of intricate ecosystems in the ocean, are overfishing and deep sea mining. Humans started pollution. And humans are playing God.

In spite of this, the ocean displays a certain self-preservation recovery which gives me hope and buys humans time to come up with a global rescue plan before we all die at our own hands.

Coral reefs were found in excellent condition off the coast of Tahiti, up to 70 metres deep and stretching out more than 3 km during recent surge in 'ocean floor mapping' expeditions, also discovering new species of black coral.

Also, beneath the waves off the coasts of Chile and Peru, the "vortex of life" has been discovered in a comprehensive first ever deep-sea survey.

More than 120 specially adapted unique species were found along two underwater mountain chains, the Salas y Gómez and Nazca Ridges (both pictures on this post feature them). The ridges stretch as deep as 4000 m and as far as 3000 km.

So tonight I offer up a prayer of thanks and appreciation for all the humans who are doing their best. And I pray that God will extend His grace toward His creation, because we surely need it.

Lockdown Day 680- 4 February 2022

First Friday of the second month of 2022. The weather has gone from a heat wave to cool and cloudy with a West wind.

Tonight I share with you an incredible video taken in December last year just off Mouillepoint in Cape Town of a pod of humpbacks.

Seeing this pod is significant on so many levels. It confirms the incredible sea life that is still out there, at the same time inspiring us to look after it.

Lockdown 679

Lockdown Day 679- 3 February 2022

After a welcome 5mm of soft rain last night, today was mostly overcast, cool and somewhat windy. I vowed never to complain about the wind ever again. Grateful the heat wave broke, we are still hoping for some more rain and will keep praying for it.

What a joy to actually consider wearing a jersey for a change and being able to go outside without melting. Although we hear February is the hot month in The Bay, we keep trusting God for rain in the Langkloof. If it means PE has to be hot and humid so it can rain in the Langkloof, so be it.

With our loadshedding due at 8pm, comes the news of a widespread major power failure across about half of Pretoria. So tonight I offer up a prayer for all those who are in the dark tonight, to experience the Light of the world and His salvation that He has brought. For other people carrying His light to make a difference in finding the solutions our country so deperately needs.

I still know for sure that He's got this and trust Him implicitly.

Lockdown 678

Lockdown Day 678- 2 February 2022

Today I salute the iron women I am friends with. Women who have stood proud through adversities that sound like a movie. You all know who you are.

Some of them beat all the odds, surviving health ordeals one cannot fathom, some had to battle the world of psycopaths and narcissists, and some had to deal with the kind of rejection that sounds impossible. And they all had to start over. 

But, by the grace of God, they walked tall and walked through it and came out not only alive, but blessed beyond all imagination. You ask how? They walked the path of Faith, looking up to God, following Truth and trusting Him blindly for their provision and protection.

So, with the much promised rain dancing against my window, I offer up a prayer for you all: you know who you are. You are an inspiration to all who are suffering, a beacon of hope to those who don't know how to go on. 

You are highly regarded by all of us. God walks with you and will never leave you. Ever.

He definitely has got you. And He's got this for sure.

Lockdown 677

Lockdown Day 677- 1 February 2022

I know I have previously reported about the heat, but today definitely deserves a mention. Apart from the intense and very damp humidity, the temperature soared to a hotter than ever 35°C. To make matters worse, a thick cloud cover acted like insulation, with the temperature climbing to 31°C by 10am.

Roxy and I tried escaping by going for a walk on King's beach. There was a little breeze coming from the warm ocean and that was enough for us to make it through the day in front of the fan. We can only hope and pray this heat will result in a full Kouga dam.

Brain fog occurs for many reasons and in my case all temperatures above 24°C brings my brain down to primitive status. And in primitive status I become a couch potato with zero energy.

Watching Dragon's Den left me wondering why on earth any of these people even thought to embarrass themselves in front of these moguls. I couldn't seem to wrap my brain around the purpose of their inventive businesses and products.

Masterchef USA didn't do any better, leaving my brain exasperated from the thought of hanging over a hot stove for 60 minutes to create a Michelin star quality dish.

Thankful I didn't have to taste those dishes, I switched channels only to find some guy trekking through the desert on a survival quest, leaving me no choice but to down another glass of ice water. The cooling effect lasted exactly 5 minutes.

Salad was on the dinner menu, served as cold as possible. It is bedtime and 29°C. I try my grandmother's philosphy by drinking a cup of tea, but the ensuing hot flush drives me to down another glass of water.

I pray we will see some form of relief in the next couple of days, and imagine the wind of the Holy Spirit coming to cool us down while we sleep.
